Doge's Palace: Guided Tour or Audio Guide?
MUVE's ticket comes with an app audio guide; booking sites sell tickets with their own audio guides, guided tours and small groups of six. What each gives and who it suits.
If you are happy to read the rooms at your own pace, you do not need to pay for an audio guide: MUVE’s St. Mark’s Square Museums ticket includes its app audio guide, in six languages (MUVE, checked November 2026). Take a guided tour when you want someone to explain the Republic as you walk, to take you straight on to St Mark’s Basilica, or to answer questions. The one in the calendar below is Crown Tours’ Doge’s Palace, New Prisons & St. Mark’s Basilica Guided Tour, from $110 (checked November 2026), with a 2-hour option that read US$99.20 on every date we checked.
The calendar is the Crown Tours guided visit, with 1,198 reviews (checked November 2026).
The audio guides

MUVE’s own audio guide is an app, and it comes with MUVE’s ticket. A review of the GetYourGuide reserved-entry ticket from 3 November 2026 says there was a QR code for the free audio guide at the entrance, so bring a charged phone either way.
Booking sites also sell tickets bundled with their sellers’ own audio guides. The Venice: Doge's Palace, Prisons, Bridge of Sighs, Correr Museum and Audio Guide (THE TOUR SHOP SRL) gives priority entry, the Bridge of Sighs and the Prisons, plus the Correr, the Marciana and the Archaeological Museum, with an audio guide you download; it asks you to bring a charged smartphone, headphones and internet access, and its exclusions list the Doge’s Apartments. It is from $50 (checked November 2026); its audio-guide option read US$56.85 on 20 January. Crown Tours’ Doge’s Palace & St. Mark’s Basilica Tickets + Tour Options has an option with a guided Basilica and the palace by its app audio guide, US$76.91 on 27 November and US$82.48 on 20 January.
What a guide adds
A guide tells you what the rooms were for: which council sat where, and how the Republic judged and jailed people. On the Crown Tours visit the guide also takes you on to St Mark’s Basilica, which no palace ticket includes, for about 20 minutes in its main area. You hear the guide through an audio system.
Two things to weigh. Crowds affect what you hear: of the 350 reviews of the Crown Tours visit that were posted from 28 July to 7 November 2026, one of 23 September says the audio set dropped out more than 10 to 15 metres from the guide, and a few others call the sound poor in the busy rooms. And a group moves at the group’s pace: 10 of those 350 reviews use the word “rushed”.

See the tour →Prices, ratings and review counts from the listings (GetYourGuide checked November 2026; Viator checked November 2026). Operators price by date, so treat the figures as the shape of the market, not a quote. The LivTours price is per person for its semi-private option; knees and shoulders must be covered, and each guest needs an ID that matches the name on the booking.
Private tours
For your own guide, Crown Tours’ private option of the guided visit read US$545.06 for one adult on all three dates we read, and its tickets-and-options product had a private tour at US$333.28 a person on 20 January (checked November 2026). Where the tours start

With a ticket and an audio guide you go straight to the Porta del Frumento on the Piazzetta San Marco. The guided tours meet at their own points: Crown Tours at one of three starting points by option, shown at booking, and LivTours under the winged lion’s column on St Mark’s Square, on the side nearest the Grand Canal.
