The first choice

A Ticket or a Guided Visit?

A Doge’s Palace tour adds what the ticket leaves out: someone to explain the rooms. MUVE, the city museums foundation that runs the palace, sells its St. Mark’s Square Museums ticket for 35 EUR standard (at the ticket office, or online within 30 days of the visit) or 30 EUR online at least 30 days ahead, with no guide (checked November 2026). Crown Tours’ Doge’s Palace, New Prisons & St. Mark’s Basilica Guided Tour adds a local guide through the council chambers, across the Bridge of Sighs to the New Prisons and on into St Mark’s Basilica, from $110 (checked November 2026). Its 2-hour option read US$99.20 a person on each date we checked, from 27 November 2026 to 10 March 2027.

Prices, ratings and review counts from the listings (GetYourGuide checked November 2026). Operators price by date, so treat the figures as the shape of the market, not a quote: Crown Tours’ palace-only option read US$46.81 on 27 November and US$80.25 on 20 January, and the Walks In Europe tour US$143.79 and US$110.35 on the same two dates.

Or buy from MUVE and go round on your own. Its ticket includes MUVE’s app audio guide in six languages, and the reduced ticket is 15 EUR for children aged 6 to 14, students aged 15 to 25 and visitors over 65, with children under 6 free (checked November 2026). Doge’s Palace ticket prices sets MUVE’s tickets against the ones sold on booking sites.

Prices are for one adult, read in November 2026; two adults paid twice the one-adult price. The From price on the calendar, $110, was the terrace option on 27 November. The 2-hour and terrace options started at 10:30 AM on the dates read, and the private tour at 9:00 AM.

The itinerary starts at one of three meeting points, depending on the option, then runs through the Doge’s Palace: the Chamber of the Great Council, the Doge’s Apartments, the Bridge of Sighs and the New Prisons. St Mark’s Basilica comes last, with a 20-minute limit in its main area. The price includes an audio system to hear the guide, digital content on the Crown Tours app, and entry within three days to the Museo Correr, the National Archaeological Museum and the Marciana rooms, which you visit on your own. Tickets carry your name, so bring an ID that matches the booking. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, vertigo or recent surgery, and the Basilica may close or limit access for religious events or high tides.

Two things come up in its reviews. Of the 350 reviews that were posted from 28 July to 7 November 2026, 10 use the word “rushed”, and a review of 23 September says the audio set dropped out more than 10 to 15 metres from the guide in the crowds. For a first visit to both the palace and the Basilica with one guide, this is the tour to book.

What MUVE sells itself

MUVE’s St. Mark’s Square Museums ticket is the palace ticket: one entry to the Doge’s Palace plus the Museo Correr, the National Archaeological Museum and the Monumental Rooms of the Marciana Library, 35 EUR standard (at the ticket office, or online within 30 days of the visit) or 30 EUR online when bought at least 30 days ahead. Holders of a ticket without an entry time slot are admitted to the palace from 12:00 (MUVE, checked November 2026), and the US$39 option of the reserved-entry ticket on GetYourGuide follows the same rule: entry from 12:00 PM until closing.

MUVE also sells the Museum Pass, 50 EUR or 25 EUR reduced, valid for six months with one entry to each of its museums, the palace included, and two guided tours of rooms off the regular route: the Secret Itineraries and the Doge’s Hidden Treasures, each 40 EUR (all checked November 2026). MUVE sells both itself.

The public entrance is the Porta del Frumento on the Piazzetta San Marco, and the regular route ends at the Porta della Carta. In between it takes you from the Museo dell’Opera through the courtyard and the loggia, up to the Doge’s Apartments and the council chambers on the first and second floors, then the Armoury, and finally the Prisons, which you reach along one of the two passageways of the Bridge of Sighs (MUVE, checked November 2026). Suitcases, trolleys and any bag whose three sides add up to more than 1 metre are not allowed in; medium bags, backpacks and umbrellas go to the free cloakroom.

Hours and Venice’s access fee

The palace opens every day from 9:00 to 18:00 between 1 November and 31 March, with last admission at 17:00, and from 9:00 to 19:00 between 1 April and 31 October, last admission 18:00; closing procedures begin 30 minutes before closing (MUVE, checked November 2026). Each ticket is good for one entry, with no going back in once you leave. How long the Doge’s Palace takes has the timing for each kind of visit.

In November 2026 no access fee is payable to enter Venice: the 2026 trial ended and the fee has not applied since 27 July 2026. The city says it returns on 72 days between 26 March and 15 August 2027, from 8:30 to 16:30, with the amount to be announced by the city (Comune di Venezia, checked November 2026).
